Rihla—a word that speaks of purposeful journeying—is the thread that weaves this concert together. It reflects not only a musical voyage across regions and styles, but also the path I’ve walked over 25 years within the field of Oriental dance: as apprentice, scholar, performer, teacher, and seeker.
This evening is a celebration of sound and movement, of the cultures that have shaped me, and the inner landscapes of rhythm, emotion, and identity explored through dance. In the intimate setting of BeJazz Club, qanun, nay, and riqq weave a living tapestry of melody—each note a whisper from distant shores. The concert traces a musical journey from Iraq to Morocco, inviting you into a rich terrain of resonance and reflection.
Presented in honor of this 25-year milestone, Rihla unfolds as a series of musical and choreographic impressions—each one echoing a moment along a path of artistic exploration. Dance intermezzi performed by professional artists offer glimpses into shared movement research, creative companionship, and the evolving dialogue between sound and gesture.
While the evening culminates in a solo performance that gathers the threads of this journey, it is above all a collective celebration—honoring the artists, collaborations, and cultural encounters that continue to shape this ongoing voyage.
